Position: Night Shift Area Superintendent at Bechtel Corporation Port Arthur, TX

Project Overview

Port Arthur LNG, LLC (PALNG) is developing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and export facility on the western shoreline of the Port Arthur Canal in Jefferson County, Texas. The project base scope includes two identical LNG trains, two LNG storage tanks, one LNG carrier berth, and associated utilities and facilities. The project will be constructed on land located at State Highway 87 south of Port Arthur, between the inner coastal waterway bridge and Keith Lake.

Bechtel’s Infrastructure Global Business Unit (GBU) will execute site civil and marine scopes of work associated with the Energy GBU LNG projects.

Job Summary

The Night Shift Area Superintendent will manage the organization and direction of project construction activities and oversee total site management, including supervision of construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, finance, and accounting. The role ensures project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget, and that clients are satisfied.

Major Responsibilities
  • Leadership / Supervision: Manages the organization and direction of construction and related activities of an area on a construction project; acts as primary client contact for all area field activities; manages all area activities, including actions of Bechtel, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and their representatives; oversees total area management including construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, finance and accounting services, and craft resource personnel as applicable;

    maintains client relationships and serves as the primary contact for client communication.
  • Planning: Manages area expenditures for labor, equipment, material, and services and ensures field operations remain within budget; establishes project field procedures and objectives in accordance with corporate policies and site conditions; develops, implements, and administers a jobsite security plan and coordinates activities with the corporate security department.
  • Safety & Quality: Ensures execution of the Project Automation Plan, Environmental Compliance Plan, safety plan, site survey plan, non‑manual staffing plan, subcontracting plan, labor strategy, Construction Execution Plan, and job‑site work rules; plans and establishes procedures to ensure construction operations meet engineering designs and specifications.
Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10‑13 years of relevant experience or 14‑17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills
  • 5+ years of construction management experience on direct hire projects, preferably in a lump‑sum environment.
  • Demonstrated planning and scheduling, procurement, and contracting experience.
  • Experience on an LNG construction site, especially on the U.S. Gulf Coast; experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing, or power generating station construction is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Philosophy.
  • Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan, and the Bechtel Core Processes.
  • Knowledge of the Project Construction Environmental Control Plan.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma program tools and methodologies.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
Additional Information

The work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections, including extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. The applicant must be able to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress) and use appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) as required for each task.
