Overview

Join Multnomah County as a Senior Database Administrator
, where your technical skills will help us build a better foundation for the community we serve. In this role, you’re not just “maintaining a system” but playing a lead part in how the County uses information to help people. You will balance the important daily work of keeping our databases running with exciting new projects, like moving our data systems from on-site servers to the Azure Cloud and Snowflake.

You will be the expert we turn to for making sure our data is safe, organized, and ready for the future.

In This Role, You Will
  • Keep things running: manage daily database operations, ensuring they have enough space and are set up correctly for our team.
  • Lead our move to the cloud: redesign how we store data, shifting from older on-site setups to modern cloud technology such as Azure, Google GCP, and AWS.
  • Protect our data: design plans for backing up information and ensuring quick recovery when needed.
  • Fix and improve: identify bottlenecks that slow performance and resolve them to maintain optimal speed.
  • Draw the blueprints: use data modeling tools to create diagrams showing how all our information fits together.
  • Help the team: mentor other IT staff in solving tricky technical issues and introduce new database tools.
  • Stay updated: install the latest updates and patches, continuously learning about new technology trends.
As a Person, You Are
  • Service-minded: act with integrity and ensure our work benefits the entire community.
  • A great communicator: explain complex technical ideas clearly to teammates and other departments.
  • A natural learner: remain curious and adapt quickly to technological changes.
  • A careful problem-solver: seek long-term solutions rather than just quick fixes.
  • A team player: enjoy building relationships and collaborating to get the job done.
The Team

You will be joining the IT Division within the Department of County Assets (DCA), led by IT Manager Michelle Smith. Our seasoned team focuses on providing the technical support that keeps the entire County moving. We are currently in the middle of a major shift to modern cloud-based tools and are looking for someone excited about this evolution.
