Grant funded hours

Part-time, no benefits (5 days per week; 3.25 hours per day, 8 weeks total) From July 7 – August 21, 2025. This position is not guaranteed to exist beyond that date.

Duties

The Read mobile Youth Program Assistant’s specific responsibilities include:

  • Supports Read mobile Youth Services Specialist and other Read mobile staff in all areas of Read mobile service.
  • Deliver successful customer service by responding to the library needs of patrons.
  • Encourage parents/caregivers and youth to visit their community library for library cards and even more services.
  • Plan and present children’s summer reading programming, including read alouds, crafts, games, and other hands‑on activities that promote literacy.
  • Collect and maintain library statistics related to CLPVD’s summer reading program.
  • Promote use of the Read mobile through outreach in each neighborhood.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of library equipment such as tents, tables, book carts, technology, etc.
Experience and Training

A minimum of one year successful experience working with children preferred, either in a library or other youth serving organization.

Required skills and abilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
  • Ability to interact with diverse patrons.
  • Ability to travel to off‑site locations, such as Providence parks.
  • Manual materials handling required, up to 35 lbs.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in potential heat to maintain the Read mobile schedule.
  • Experience with the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards is a plus.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check.
