Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a dedicated Lab Technician to join our team at pilot processing plant/HQ at Ionic Mineral Technologies in Provo, UT. This role primarily supports the geology team, with occasional support to the hydrometallurgy team. It is predominantly field‑based and involves sample collection, drill core cutting, sample preparation (grinding, milling, splitting, labeling), characterization support, and rigorous record keeping. The successful candidate will be comfortable working outdoors and in operational field environments for most of the workday while maintaining excellent organization, accuracy, and chain‑of‑custody documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze raw materials, in‑process, and product samples using laboratory equipment and established procedures.
  • Collect, transport, and log geological samples in the field.
  • Cut core samples from drill holes according to project requirements and sample plans.
  • Perform sample preparation (crushing, grinding, milling, splitting, sub-sampling, labeling).
  • Support basic sample characterization and maintain full chain‑of‑custody documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records for all samples (IDs, locations, depths, dates, conditions, handling steps).
  • Ensure samples are organized, traceable, and prepared according to procedures.
  • Assist hydrometallurgy personnel with sample preparation and related lab tasks as needed.
  • Follow safety, quality, and contamination‑control procedures at all times.
  • Keep work areas, tools, and sample storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Communicate clearly with geologists, and supervisors regarding sample status and any irregularities.
  • Accurately record, interpret, and report analytical results, noting trends and anomalies.
  • Assist in the development, validation, and optimization of analytical methods.
  • Ensure analyses follow quality control procedures and support instrument calibration and performance checks.
  • Manage laboratory consumables and reagents, including inventory and proper storage.
  • Be a self‑starter, willing to learn and master new analytical techniques and equipment as pilot plant needs evolve.
  • Work collaboratively with process operators, engineers, and R&D personnel to provide timely analytical support.
Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in geology, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Experience in a geology lab, exploration program, mining environment, or hydrometallurgical sample preparation setting.
  • Hands‑on experience with characterization techniques, including elemental analysis using X‑ray tools (e.g., XRF, XRD).
  • Strong understanding of basic laboratory principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in field conditions for extended periods.
  • Comfortable with physical work, including lifting, carrying, cutting, grinding, and milling samples.
  • Understanding of sample labeling, chain of custody, and contamination control.
  • Ability to follow written procedures consistently and accurately.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Commitment to high standards of safety and quality in all work.
  • This position is field‑heavy and requires spending most of the work time outside the office. Work may involve exposure to dust, noise, weather, uneven terrain, and physically demanding tasks. The technician must be able to maintain accuracy and consistency while working in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Full company benefits, including health, vision, and dental insurance.
  • Additional benefits such as retirement plans, paid time off, and opportunities for professional development.
