Position Summary
Current Pierce College Tenured and Permanent Status Faculty position with a priority deadline one week before the posted closing date. There are two vacancies: one at the Fort Steilacoom Campus and one at the Puyallup Campus.

the Program
The Pierce College Success Department, within the Transitional Education division, employs full- and part‑time faculty who serve a diverse student population. College Success classes orient students to college behaviors, expectations, and rewards, as well as to academic support services in an inclusive classroom environment. The department seeks candidates committed to supporting diverse students as they transition to college and navigate higher‑education systems.
Applicants should bring engaging facilitation skills, passion for students, and the ability to collaborate across campus. The department is committed to teaching that promotes belonging, affirms student identities, and creates opportunities for student excellence at an anti‑racist institution.
College Success instructors are the first point of contact for students. A common curriculum is used, and instructors receive all content and assignments to ensure a shared student experience. In addition to course outcomes, faculty teach and assess the College Core Abilities Outcomes:
Critical, Creative and Reflective Thinking;
Information Competency;
Effective Communication;
Global Citizenship; and Intercultural Engagement.

- Designing and teaching College Success courses that promote Black and Brown excellence.
- Creating race‑conscious course assessments, analyzing data, and engaging in continuous course improvement to advance student achievement, retention, graduation, and successful transition.
- Continuously innovating inclusive pedagogy and active learning experiences in campus, online, and hybrid modalities.
- Providing District Leadership in curriculum, staffing, and program development.
- Assisting with District‑wide professional development and trainings that integrate college success strategies across disciplines.
- Demonstrating cultural humility and intercultural engagement, affirming the identities and communications of students of color.
- Incorporating appropriate and engaging technology across modalities.
- Creatively designing learning experiences that extend beyond content delivery and support students in achieving program outcomes and the college’s five core abilities.
- Contributing to a collaborative and innovative department, division, and institution.
- Leading efforts to increase student achievement, including closing racial inequities.
- Teaching, advising, and mentoring students holistically from recruitment to completion and transition.
- Engaging in shared governance, including district‑wide efforts to build an antiracist institution focused on access, retention, and success for marginalized students and employees.
