The City of Raleigh is proud to host summer camp at 41 different locations and is seeking enthusiastic and passionate individuals to join our camp family. Being a Camp Director develops lifelong personal skills and helps individuals to explore and expand career aspirations. Come let us help you reach your potential as a leader!

Summer Camp Directors are responsible for groups of kids and part time staff through activities every day of camp, giving you a chance to sharpen your skills before working in a classroom. You will gain experience in program planning, behavior management and parent communication.

Summer Camp Directors are responsible for the administration of medication, First Aid, CPR. In addition, Camp Directors maintain medication logs, allergy sheets, and medical needs databases.

Summer Camp Directors supervise and lead a team of enthusiastic counselor staff. In addition, you will gain customer service experience working with parents and the public.

Summer Camp Directors work between 40-55 hours per week. Camp sites are open Monday-Friday 7:30a-6:00p.

Summer Camp Directors develop and direct counselors in creative and fun curriculum to keep campers engaged in awesome activities throughout the day.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Provides a memorable and positive camp experience by developing, scheduling and organizing activities: passive and active games, art projects, theatrical activities, field trips, science activities, and food experiences while maintaining a safe environment.
* Supervises the day to day work of a counselor team with a fun, positive and outgoing attitude while acting as a role model
* Plans weekly activity schedules
* Demonstrates positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to internal and external customers
* Maintains cleanliness, inventory and order of camp in order to ensure safety
* Attention to detail and adhere to City of Raleigh Policies and Procedure
* Attend all required trainings before the start of camp

Typical Qualifications

* Camp Director you should be organized, creative, fun, flexible, aware of deadlines, a team player, a leader, upbeat, decisive, and responsible.
* Directors much be at least 18 years old by the start of camp
* Have reliable transportation
* Minimum 2 years' experience working with youth ages 6-12
* Experience supervising staff
* This job requires directors to actively participate with campers in a recreational setting which includes the outdoors
* Ability to collaborate well with others; co-director, counselors, field trip vendors, leadership team
* Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
* Ability to tolerate loud noise
* Ability to frequently stand; walk; use hands, objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms
* CPR/First Aid certification or ability to attain before the start of camp (Trainings available through the City of Raleigh)
