As a PennDOT CDL Operator with the Department of Transportation, you will enjoy an exciting career path with active, hands‑on work. This position allows you to make a direct impact on the safety and upkeep of Pennsylvania roads, supporting the health of our highways and bridges.
Description of Work- Equipment Operation:
Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery. - License Compliance:
Maintain required CDL credentials and complete all pre‑ and post‑operation checks. - Traffic Control:
Perform flagger duties when equipment is not in use. - Manual Labor Tasks:
Use hand and motorized tools to clean culverts, cut vegetation, repair guiderails, and support maintenance needs. - Safety Practices:
Follow safety training, report hazards, and work to maintain a safe environment. - Equipment Care:
Make minor repairs, assist mechanics, and keep accurate equipment records.
- Full‑time employment.
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
- Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
- Telework:
This position does not offer telework. - Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- Employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders and two additional pieces of construction equipment within the probationary period.
- All permanent employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- Employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
