Safe drinking water is the number one priority for the City of Redmond. The water utility manages 318 miles of water mains, seven reservoirs, five booster stations, and five municipal wells.
The City’s Public Works Department provides essential services that safeguard public health and strengthen Redmond’s infrastructure as well as its built and natural environment. Guided by our mission to build, operate, protect, and maintain critical infrastructure, utility teams manage drinking water supply, wastewater conveyance, and stormwater quality in ways that promote sustainability, system reliability, and community trust.
We are seeking an experienced supervisor to lead the Water Utility engineering team. As an engineering supervisor, you will possess strong people management skills and values that align with the City’s, which include being welcoming, having integrity, showing accountability, and demonstrating a commitment to customer service. The ideal candidate should thrive in a collaborative, high-volume work environment and will be engaging and proactive in leadership, within the Utility as well as the Department.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you will demonstrate true system ownership, taking pride in the reliability of our infrastructure—and drive long‑term strategic planning to ensure the utility meets the needs of our community for decades to come.
As supervisor, you will lead and develop a team of engineers, fostering their growth and providing training. Success in this role requires a forward- thinking mindset, strong leadership, excellent communication, and the ability to balance time-sensitive technical needs with the long‑term vision for the utility.
With your understanding of leadership principles, utilities, and the ability to assess problems and seek innovative solutions, your primary responsibilities will be:
Strategic Planning of Water Utilities city-wide. Development and implementation of performance measures to demonstrate progress toward goals and objectives.
Gathers, interprets, and prepares data. Develop studies, reports and recommendations.
Coordinates activities with other divisions, departments, community organizations, advisory boards and community members.
Day‑to‑day supervision, coaching, and recruitment of Engineering staff.
Development of and reporting on Engineering workplans and performance metrics
Communicates to commissions, council committees, and the City Council for:
- Water System Plan
- Critical Aquifer Recharge Area Protection
- Capital water system projects
- Establishment of engineering standards including:
- Water Design Requirements
- Standard Plans & Specifications
- Interpretation of codes, standards, and engineering analysis to implement system plans. Consideration of the unique challenges of private development and capital projects within a densifying urban setting.
- Assessment of existing infrastructure conditions, and system planning goals to support development and implementation of capital improvement program for water.
Knowledge of:
Applicable Civil Engineering principles, practices, and techniques; technical aspects of municipal engineering; and applicable laws, codes, policies and procedures.
Technical knowledge of water distribution and treatment systems, groundwater supply, and wellhead protection.
Budget and personnel management practices and principles in a municipal government environment.
