Summary:

Meta Reality Labs supports its goal of connecting the world by building various products, including Reality Labs devices. Many of these products are custom designed for our requirements and integrate advanced technologies. We are seeking a Computer Numerical Control machinist and prototyper to join our state‑of‑the‑art mechanical prototyping facility. This role will be responsible for programming, machining, working with engineers to debug designs, assisting with test fixture development, assembly work, and so on.

Our products utilize a variety of materials (from plastics to hard metals) and processes, offering continuous challenges to grow your skills. The prototyping facility includes advanced 5‑axis and 3‑axis CNC machine tools, laser cutting, 5‑axis waterjet cutting, and manual machine tools. The CNC Machinist is responsible for the safe setup, operation, and maintenance of this equipment, including tooling, fixture specification and procurement.

The machinist will work closely with the mechanical engineering team to solve design and manufacturing issues. We move fast and are looking for a person who is excited to find the fastest, most efficient ways to go from CAD models to finished parts in real materials.

Required Skills:
  • CAM programming and operation of all CNC and manual machining equipment
  • CNC Machining of complex parts in metal and plastic
  • Interact with design engineers on part functionality, advise on the part suitability for machining
  • Clear communication of timelines and expectations to other groups within Meta
  • Improve the systems and tools we rely on via continuous improvement
  • Responsible for part quality and inspection
  • Ensuring that machines are properly maintained, that stock material supplies are adequate and that the shop is operated in a safe and workmanlike manner
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 5 relevant years of experience in a prototyping environment with advanced Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools
  • Experience running 5‑axis milling equipment
  • Skills in Computer‑Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software and CNC programming (Autodesk Fusion)
  • Skills in Computer‑Aided Design software (Autodesk Fusion, Siemens NX, Solidworks) and fixture design
  • Skilled in prototyping of complex electro‑mechanical assemblies and familiar with typical shop tools
  • Computer skills and knowledge to pick‑up new software quickly and efficiently. Focus around software used in designing and building things
  • Proven experience of proactively identifying, scoping and implementing novel solutions in the rapid prototyping space
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Experience taking products from concept through to functional prototype or production
  • Associates Degree in machining, engineering, or fabrication. Engineering degree is a plus
  • Exposure to code management and software engineering basics
  • Experience with other technologies used in a modern digital prototyping lab, including additive, laser cutting, injection molding, and water jet
  • Experience with Wire EDM
  • Public Compensation: $144,000/year to $204,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
