Job Summary
The Technician II – Structured Cabling must possess the ability to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Technician II will coordinate small groups of installers in the daily workload, ensuring adherence to company safety and quality standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- The Technician II – Structured Cabling will install a work area outlet for floor, modular furniture and wall, terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting face plates and surface mount boxes correctly, and adhering to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards.
- The Technician II – Structured Cabling will build closets, mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware; install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required; and complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminating 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
- The Technician II – Structured Cabling will perform testing: continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable, use a volt-ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable, and use a tone set.
- The Technician II – Structured Cabling will identify active voice or data circuits.
- The Technician II – Structured Cabling will assume responsibility for effective crew performance, provide necessary training, and coordinate personnel and timelines to complete projects.
- The Technician II – Structured Cabling will fully complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, and others as required).
- The Technician II – Structured Cabling will adhere to and participate in all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.

- Self‑motivated, positive in approach, professional, and able to create, develop, and implement project process improvements.
- Promote company culture and mission to employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.
- Act as company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
- Possess proven problem‑solving and critical thinking skills and effectively read, write, and give oral presentations.
- Work at heights, off of ladders, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- Distinguish colors, read small print, hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
- Travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field and the ability to supervise others.
- Proficiency with the listed tools.
- Proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
- Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
- Meet company minimum driving standards.
