Position: Senior Accountant / Payroll Specialist

The Senior Accountant will support the Controller with day-to-day activities within the Accounting Department, including processing semi-monthly payroll. This position will assist with identifying accounting issues and implementing procedures to ensure compliance with financial laws and regulations. The Senior Accountant, in collaboration with the Controller, will create and implement accountability systems and internal controls that prevent errors and ensure accurate accounting documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting, adhering to deadlines mutually established with the Controller.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to uphold financial accuracy.
  • Prepare and post journal entries while adhering to established accounting procedures and paying attention to details.
  • Manage and process full-cycle payroll for employees across multiple states on a semi-monthly basis.
  • Ensure accurate calculation and processing of wages, bonuses, commissions, benefits deductions, and payroll taxes.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including wage and hour laws.
  • Review timesheets in Costpoint as well process adjustments if necessary.
  • Coordinate with HR payroll changes including new hires, terminations, promotions, garnishments, and benefit adjustments.
  • Partner closely with HR and Benefits teams to ensure accurate employee records and payroll changes.
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and provide timely issue resolution.
  • Support accounts payable by reviewing or entering AP vouchers accurately.
  • Support accounts receivable by generating invoices, monitoring payments, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining accurate accounts receivable records.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with the company's semi-annual bank collateral audits and the company's annual financial statement audit, including providing accurate data to auditors and responsiveness to auditor requests during fieldwork.
  • Assist the Controller in preparing appropriate documentation related to policies, procedures, and internal controls as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Required Experience & Skills
  • 5+ years of accounting and payroll experience, preferably in a government contracting environment.
  • 5+ years of Deltek Costpoint experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting/payroll systems or ERP platforms.
  • Experience with payroll software such as ADP, iSolved, Paycom, or similar systems preferred.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrate excellent prioritizing skills and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and busy environment.
  • Expected to work closely with other department groups on problems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Assures effective communications are maintained within areas of responsibility.
  • Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking and problem-solving.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Certified Federal Contract Manager (CFCM) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with Deltek CostPoint.
  • Practical experience in International Sales, EAR and ITAR regulations, and export compliance.
  • Applicants selected for this position may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. The optimal candidate shall possess an active Secret clearance.
