Payroll Operations Manager

Join our Global Payroll team as a vital player responsible for overseeing all aspects of US payroll operations. At Tanium, we support payroll processes across 15 countries for a rapidly growing team of over 2,200 employees. We seek a candidate with extensive knowledge of US Payroll Operations who is eager to implement innovative payroll solutions. You’ll establish meaningful relationships with senior stakeholders, collaborate with various teams, and take a hands-on approach to daily payroll tasks while driving process standardization, automation, and enhancements.

The role requires you to work in-office at one of the following locations at least three days a week:
Addison, TX;
Bellevue, WA;
Durham, NC;
Emeryville, CA; or Reston, VA.

• Take full ownership of processing payroll for 1,400 salaried employees and 100 hourly employees.
• Prepare payroll input files and meticulously process payroll outputs to ensure data accuracy and compliance with company policies.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in US payroll, providing insights and assistance to team members and stakeholders.
• Conduct ongoing reconciliations and audits to maintain data integrity and compliance.
• Lead initiatives for process automation and improvements, collaborates with HR, IT, Legal, and Accounting to optimize payroll operations.
• Adhere to best practices to minimize errors and ensure operational excellence.
• Assist with month-end close activities, including payroll journal entries and GL account reconciliations.
• Address employee inquiries and act as a liaison between employees and third-party service providers.
• Manage 401k contributions audit, reconciliation, and funding, resolving discrepancies in real-time.
• Research payroll tax reporting and ensure timely and accurate filings.
• Manage tax inquiries and coordinate with the tax team as needed.
• Lead payroll-related audits independently, including Workers Compensation and 401k audits.
• Support ad-hoc projects and initiatives as needed, including international payroll coverage.

• A minimum of 7 years of end-to-end payroll processing experience, specifically in organizations with over 1,800 employees.
• Proficient in payroll systems such as UKG Pro and UKG WFM; familiarity with Net Suite, SAP Success Factors, PwC Global Payroll, and Workday is advantageous.
• Expertise in US payroll processes, compliance, and tax regulations.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with all levels of the organization, including executives.
• Proactive and detail-oriented with excellent management skills to deliver exceptional customer service.
• Understanding of equity issues related to multi-state payroll reporting and tax (RSU, NQ, ISO).
• Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups.
• Preferred but not required: CPP certification, payroll accounting, SOX compliance knowledge.
• Additional considerations for candidates with international payroll experience and payroll system implementation experience.

The annual base salary range for this position is $116,000 to $178,000, depending on factors such as location, education, skills, and experience.
