POSITION: CCL - MSW Graduate Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Center for Cultural Liberation
REPORTS TO: Associate Director Center for Cultural Liberation
HOURS NEEDED PER WEEK: 15 - 20
HOURLY RATE: $17/hour
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT (APPROXIMATE): July 2025
-May 2026

PRIMARY PURPOSE/

POSITION SUMMARY:



The MSW Graduate Intern of the Center for Cultural Liberation will provide direct assistance to the professional staff in the development, coordination, execution, and evaluation of the programs within the department. Additionally, the intern will also build relationships and collaborate with various university departments and community organizations. The intern will develop skills in case management, plan and facilitate group activities, participate in various training sessions, and receive on-going support from the team.

Note:

There is an opportunity for the intern who is selected to help structure the internship based on their experience and interest and the current needs of the CCL

JOB COMPONENTS/

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Case Management
  • Under the instruction of professional staff, assist with the advising and mentoring of student cohorts connect with the CCL such as Dream.

    US, Pillars ad the Village
  • Conduct student check-ins and assist with referrals for other departments such as Wellness Center, University Ministry, Housing, Academic Advising and others as needed.
  • Assist in coordinating, tracking and following up on student referrals between other programs and partner organizations/agencies in the local community
  • Support with Family Support initiatives
Group Facilitation
  • Assist in the planning and co-facilitate related workshops/trainings for students and DU Community
  • Develop and implement programs to meet the cultural, academic, spiritual, and personal development needs of students from historically marginalized backgrounds, including consideration for gender, sexuality, race, and immigration status
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of heritage programs and events throughout the year sponsored by the CCL
Outreach Support
  • Represent the CCL during informational presentations and distribute general information about the center
  • Establish and maintain connections with other departments, while collaborating on joint efforts.
Team Collaboration
  • Participate in CCL orientation and workshops for professional staff and interns as needed
  • Attend Department Meetings and team meetings
  • Participate in collaborative projects with other interns when appropriate
Training Opportunities
  • Research best practices used at other universities as it relates to culturally responsive programming and one on one mentorship.
  • Attend a range of meetings with staff, students, and other community stakeholders to assist with community building and strategic planning efforts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performed other duties as requested, delegated or assigned to support the mission of the CCL and its programs
  • Provide 15-20 hours a week of in-person
  • Participate in supervision

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Enrolled in Dominican University's Social Work Graduate Program
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends
