Overview
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy construction equipment to support excavation, grading, trenching, and utility installation projects. This role requires experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a coordinated crew in a fast-paced environment.
The Pipe Layer / Laborer assists in the installation of underground utility systems and supports excavation operations through physical labor, pipe placement, and jobsite preparation. This role is essential to ensuring accurate pipe installation, safe trench conditions, and efficient jobsite operations.
Responsibilities Heavy Equipment Operator Responsibilities- Operate excavators, loaders, dozers, skid steers, and related equipment
- Perform site prep, trenching, grading, and backfill
- Read and follow grade stakes, plans, and job specs
- Maintain equipment and report mechanical issues
- Work safely and efficiently with the crew
- Install storm drain, sewer, water, and utility pipe
- Assist with trench work, shoring, bedding, and backfill
- Set pipe to grade and alignment
- Hand digging, spotting equipment, and jobsite cleanup
- Work closely with operators and foremen
- Minimum 2 years of equipment operating experience
- Strong understanding of excavation safety and trenching practices
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus)
- Reliable transportation and strong work ethic
- Experience in underground utilities or excavation. Two years preferred
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor
- Knowledge of pipe installation and jobsite safety
- Ability to read plans and understand how to set grades
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Reliable transportation
