Responsibilities
  • Deliver nursing care to patients in the Interventional Radiology and Neurointerventional Radiology department.
  • Assess patient condition and take immediate action in emergency situations.
  • Assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and individualized care for patients of all ages.
  • Plan, implement, evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes.
  • Complete focused assessments of patients undergoing procedures and/or sedation of all ages in a timely manner.
  • Respond to patient care needs before, during, and after procedures, including assessment for cardiac arrest and intravenous problems.
  • Perform pre‑exam and post‑exam assessments for angiography, CT scan and other special procedures.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, and families to develop and evaluate an age‑specific interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Follow established standards and practice under the direction of a credentialed radiologist, invasive cardiologist, or intravascular surgeon.
  • Administer treatments and medications for patients of all ages and document in automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
  • Identify patient/family educational needs, incorporate them into the plan of care, and document accordingly.
  • Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks, demonstrating flexibility with scheduling and the ability to manage competing needs.
  • Complete manager/director‑determined projects within specified time frames and according to pre‑established guidelines.
  • Orient new employees as needed.
  • Provide staff feedback using appropriate communication and documentation.
  • Participate in unit, hospital, and system activities to provide input into practice, environment, and work issues.
  • Assist in providing educational activities for the unit or department.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a professional nursing school. BSN preferred.
  • No prior experience required.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must hold AHA ACLS, PALS, and AHA BLS-HCP certifications.
  • Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
