Job OverviewThe Civil Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the Land Development project team by executing design tasks for land development projects. The position involves active participation in coordination with review agencies and clients, and requires proficiency in developing and demonstrating essential functions outlined below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Collaborate with project team members and clients on various project assignments as directed by senior staff.
- Draft, review, and finalize preliminary and final site plans, documents, and computations for senior staff review. This includes reports, opinions, and recommendations on project direction, due diligence and site analysis reports, engineer’s opinions of probable costs, project schedules, utility design computations, and local/state permit applications.
- Research local/state zoning and design requirements as directed by senior staff.
- Perform site visits and field assignments as needed.
- Review project survey data to assess existing site conditions and key development considerations, including legal descriptions, ALTA surveys, and easement documents.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and related engineering software to complete assignments efficiently and within prescribed deadlines, ensuring compliance with the standards outlined in the Atwell Product Quality Manual.
- Address review letters and modify plans based on feedback from agencies and clients, as directed by senior staff.
- Assist senior staff in communication with agencies and clients.
- Independently manage individual workload and communicate needs to Project Managers and Directors.
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to real‑world applications.

Skilled in basic tools, markups, and Studio Sessions for QA/QC and collaborative project reviews. - Microsoft Office Suite

Knowledgeable in site grading to ensure public safety, constructability, and compliance with engineering practices and agency requirements. - Utility Design

Understanding of water, sanitary, and storm sewer system design to ensure constructability and compliance. - Quantity Takeoffs
:
Accuracy in quantity takeoffs and cost estimation for effective budgeting. - Zoning and Design Standards
:
Ability to navigate zoning laws and design standards for plan compliance. - ADA Compliance
:
Knowledge of federal accessibility regulations for inclusive design. - Entitlement Process
:
Understanding of regulatory approval processes and permitting requirements. - Construction and Permitting
:
Ensuring design accuracy before construction and conducting field reviews during construction. - Shop Drawing Review
:
Verifying that materials and components align with project designs. - Communication Skills
:
Ability to tailor technical information to diverse audiences and write technical reports. - Professional Competency
:
Collaborating with team members, resolving conflicts, managing time effectively, prioritizing tasks, critical thinking, and risk assessment.
- Additional certifications or licenses.
- Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam preferred.
- Provide training and mentorship to less‑experienced team members.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Entry level to four (0‑4) years of experience contributing to the site and infrastructure design of land development projects.
