Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer IPTL – Space Systems
Job Location: Rochester, NY
Work Schedule: 9/80 (Every other Friday off!)

Job Description: This Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead position provides subassembly and system integration and test engineering execution across a broad range of optical, electrical and mechanical assemblies to meet critical program deliverables. As a team leader this role manages and contributes to engineering tasks, from proposals to system architecture to hardware development, integration, test and delivery. The candidate will be part of a larger program team as a leader dedicated to meeting the customer’s technical, cost and schedule needs.
Program support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, manufacturing, and assembly/integration and testing. Reviews status of engineering projects and budgets, manages schedules, and prepares status reports. Identifies, tracks, mitigates, manages, and dispositions program‑level risks and opportunities. Estimates resource and material needs for the project/product. Provides the coordination between resource managers/supervisors and ensures all necessary reviews and approvals are received.
Must have ability and willingness to work in a collaborative team environment on quick‑reaction projects and will have regular contact with customers. Candidate must have proficiency in 3D modeling, design for manufacturing (DfMA), mechanical analysis and ability to work independently or within a multi‑disciplined team environment.

- Work within a highly dynamic and changing environment and adapt to shifting customer priorities
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines from an ABET Accredited program and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
- 4+ years experience with mechanical detailed design and new product development, manufacturing processes, and MCAD modeling tools
- Experience managing technical, cost, and schedule performance in a professional setting
- Professional experience leading a technical team
- Active Top Secret/SCI is highly preferred
- Project Management certificate is preferred
