Supplier Quality Engineer in Rochester

Insero Talent Solutions is recruiting a Supplier Quality Engineer for a manufacturing company in Rochester, NY.

Responsible for supporting supplier quality and development, supplier strategic initiatives, assessing QMS systems, and proactively working on improved incoming components/material (reduced DPPM).

• Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and internal Quality Engineers to assess risk and approve suppliers for new and existing products.
• Work with suppliers to ensure compliance to requirements, assess risk, identify critical characteristics, approve and verify corrective and preventative actions.
• Review and approve supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) for new part introductions and existing part revisions.
• Facilitate Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) requirements including determination of control plans, process instructions, inspection and testing requirements, statistical process control (SPC), calibration & measurement system analysis, and PFMEAs.
• Participate in the MRB process to identify, evaluate, and dispose of nonconforming product.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective action with suppliers.
• Process Supplier Waivers.
• Conduct timely and compliant supplier audits as required.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines.
• Work with various quality systems: ISO 9001, AS 9100, IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.
• Support the company's internal quality auditing process as required.
• Apply strong knowledge of Six Sigma methodology and problem-solving tools, advocating utilization throughout the organization.
• Travel to suppliers as needed (approximately 30%).

• 5-7 years minimum experience in a quality or supplier quality role with strong knowledge in commodities including machining, electronics, raw materials, hardware, and special processes.
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical field required.
• Familiarity with manufacturing of components (e.g., machining, castings/forgings, injection molding, metal fabrication stampings, electronics, plating) and raw materials including various metals and plastics.
• Experience with APQP and PPAP, including the use of control plans and process flow diagrams; comprehensive understanding of Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) including Design (DFMEA) and Process (PFMEA).
• Experience with advanced Quality Management Systems: AS9100 and IATF 16949.
• Strong background with various supplier tools/activities including corrective actions, problem solving, supplier audits, supplier score cards, and risk assessments.
• Strong statistical analysis and mathematical ability including measurement systems analysis and capability studies.
• Experience with GD&T metrology, inspection/testing procedures, and methodology.
• Problem-solving tools such as the Shainin System (Red-X method) and 8D Analysis highly desirable.
• Maintain positive supplier relations, requiring some travel to customers and suppliers (up to 30%).
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Self-starter with minimal supervision.
• ASQ certification (CQE & CQA) is a plus.
