Nature and Scope of Job

To enable each child to pursue his education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.

Job Functions

Essential Functions

* Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the school building.

* Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.

* Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which is assigned.

* Teaches the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.

* Consults as appropriate, with the building principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher's Guide.

* Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class, during lunch, and recess periods.

* Reports in writing, on the form provided by the school secretary, on the day's activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.

* Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

* Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.

Minimum Qualifications

* High School Education or Equivalent

* Professional Teaching Standards Board Substitute Permit

Knowledge, Skills and Mental Ability

* Knowledge of the teaching and learning process

* Knowledge of lesson implementation and presentation

* Knowledge of classroom management techniques

* Ability to communicate positively throughout the work day

* Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions

* Ability to think clearly and calculate accurately

* Ability to work positively with people of various personality types

* Possess sound emotional judgement

* Ability to be professional with all stakeholders

* Maintain Confidentitiality

Equipment Which May Be Used

Physical Demands

* Be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

* Strength and stamina to be able to remain in a seated position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the work day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.

* Visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer for at least part of each day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.

* Strength and stamina to be able to remain in a standing position for up to 90 minutes at a time throughout the work day with a minimum of fatigue or discomfort.

* Strength to lift objects that weigh at least 50 pounds and move them more than 50 feet.
