JOB DESCRIPTION:
Lamar CISD is accepting applications for a Dyslexia Summer Program teacher. The program is designed to allow current dyslexic students (1st-6th) who are in Blast or HD Word who are close to completion (1st-6th) to finish the intervention during the summer. Person(s) selected will implement Blast and HD Word intervention programming and activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties
* Provide dyslexia intervention to identified students.
* Administer and interpret comprehensive dyslexia assessment.
* Participate in RtI, Section 504 and ARD committees to collaboratively make decisions about dyslexia identification and appropriate interventions.
* Attend on-going staff development in the area of reading intervention.
* Attend dyslexia teacher meetings.
* Compile, maintain and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required.
* Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
* Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to Board Policy, administrative regulations and IEPs.
* Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
* Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
* Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
* Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
* Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for teachers.
* Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
* Articulate the District's mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
* Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
* Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
* Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
* Supervise teacher aides and volunteers as assigned
* Supervise students
EXPERIENCE:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum
Education/Certification:
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited university;
Master's degree preferred
* Reading specialization preferred
* Training in Dyslexia Intervention Program, preferred
* Training in Dyslexia Assessment, preferred
* Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
* Knowledge of reading intervention strategies
* Ability to administer and interpret diagnostic reading assessment instruments
* Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
* Physically able to monitor student discipline and progress and meet other student needs as required
* Physically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate small and large group instruction leadership skills
