The Financial Services Department supports the day‑to‑day fiscal operations of Round Rock ISD. The team manages accounting, accounts payable, budgeting, payroll, purchasing, investment and treasury, employee benefits, fixed assets, tax collections, and related functions that keep more than 56 schools running for over 47,000 students. The department is responsible for the District's compliance with federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements and the annual preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

Description/NotesThe Senior Accountant performs high‑level, complex accounting functions and prepares annual audit requirements related to payroll liabilities and employee benefits. This position reports to the Manager, Accounting and is responsible for Medicaid Administrative Claiming (MAC) financials and School Health and Related Services (SHARS) cost reporting. This is a hands‑on role for an experienced accountant who can manage detailed reconciliations, prepare audit‑ready work papers, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate, prepare, and submit all reports for Medicaid Administrative Claiming (MAC) and School Health and Related Services (SHARS).
- Reconcile all payroll liability general ledger accounts to the monthly payroll processing.
- Reconcile the Self Insurance, Flexible Spending, and Health Savings Account funds.
- Prepare work papers and supporting schedules for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Prepare and maintain annual payroll accruals and the compensated absence file.
- Coordinate, prepare, and submit external stipend information.
- Assist with the monthly closing process and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Determine proper handling of financial transactions and approve transactions within designated limits.
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Assist with maintaining the chart of accounts, accounting procedures, internal controls, and database management.
- Develop, revise, and update accounting guidelines and procedures.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements; file financial reports; and advise management on needed actions.
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a business‑related field from an accredited college or university. - Experience:
Two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and principles.
- Skill in preparing standard and custom financial reports.
- Skill in operating standard computer and software applications, including spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
