Position Summary:  
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the day to day purchasing functions, while working collaboratively with production scheduling and other departments.  This function must ensure Purchasing and Production Scheduling are coordinated to ensure that Production has the required parts to produce the end product in an efficient and timely manner.

Essential Functions:
This position is responsible for the following tasks, duties and responsibilities:
• Analyze demand and forecast to issue purchase orders that match the Operational needs.
• Verify purchase orders to final parts received to close orders.
• Review work with the Production Scheduler to assure changes to schedules are monitored and parts are coordinated for the job schedule.  Manage inventory levels in alignment with goals.
• Establish and maintain vendor report card for on time delivery of parts.
• Review, negotiate and approve purchase requisitions.
• Analyze and work with internal technical customers in developing functional specifications.
• Build and maintain Supplier relationships with the objective of reducing costs, eliminating inefficiencies throughout the purchasing cycle and promoting innovation.
• Perform analysis and negotiate commercial terms with suppliers.  Prepare RFQ’s.
• Establish and maintain Outsourcing Schedule to insure on time deliveries of finished products, JIT when and where possible without jeopardizing production effectiveness.
• Utilize pricing and cost analysis techniques to ensure that the organization is receiving the best value for its purchasing dollar.
• Lead and build a strong and strategic Purchasing team, including all MRO requirements to keep operations running efficiently.
• Exercise ethical business practices.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operational Planning & Logistics

• Run reports as required for purchase orders and spend, outside vendors of mfg. parts, and others.      
• Work closely with Engineering on make/buy decisions and design changes.
• Participate in qualifying and selecting new suppliers, including conducting supplier performance visits and monitoring supplier performance.
• Cross training with other Supply Chain roles to serve as back up as needed.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:
• Travel to other company sites, seminars, vendors and supplies via air or car.
• Primarily sedentary work however, may require lifting up to 50 lbs. on occasion when in the warehouse or other operational areas.
• Typically in a controlled office work environment with few physical hazards.
• When in the warehouse and production areas employee may be exposed to temperature extremes, dust and noise requiring hearing protection.
Position Requirements
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
• A bachelor’s degree in business or related field with 3-5 years minimum of applicable experience in a purchasing environment with an MRP/ERP system and understanding of Production Scheduling.  
• Lean Manufacturing experience highly desired.
• Experience in a Thermoforming Manufacturing environment and with applicable Resins knowledge preferred but not required.
• APICS Certification and or Purchasing Certification a plus as well as basic knowledge of Lean Principles.
• Microsoft Office products and Outlook computer skills.
• Strong customer service, negotiation, contract management skills.
• Good communication skills, verbal and written.
• Good organizational skills, attention to detail and planning abilities.
• Sound critical thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
