CAMHS Crisis Clinician - Crisis Hub

Are you looking for a rewarding career in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)? We have an exciting opportunity for a professionally registered clinician to join the North Yorkshire, York and Selby (NYYS) CAMHS Crisis team. The NYYS CAMHS Crisis Team is a locality-wide service that provides a 24/7 service to young people under 18 and their carers/families in most parts of North Yorkshire, York and Selby (excluding Craven area, which is covered by a different trust).

This postholder will conduct psychosocial assessments for a young person experiencing a crisis and create a robust safety plan with the child/young person and carers so they can return home safely. They will have the skills to work as part of a team, helping to co-ordinate the team's clinical activities and manage the shared caseload across the locality. It can be fast paced, so good coordination and organisation skills are essential.

The ability to work autonomously is essential.

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the whole locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

This post is for a band 6 Registered Professional who has a keen interest in working with children and young people to help improve their mental health.

Main duties of the job
  • Conduct psychosocial assessment of the mental health and emotional needs of a young person.
  • Conduct risk assessment and formulate a care plan that includes a robust safety plan.
  • Work collaboratively with a young person, their carers and other professionals during times of high distress.
  • Provide a consistent approach in challenging clinical situations to deliver safe care to young people and their families/carers.
  • Lead the shift and direct junior staff. Provide sound clinical decisions in crisis situations to help reduce and manage potential risk of harm.
  • Communicate effectively with young people, families and other professionals to ensure the right level of support at the right time.
  • Demonstrate good leadership skills to coordinate day-to-day running of a shift.
  • Have a good understanding of children's mental health and emotional wellbeing needs.
  • Work with partner agencies to ensure services meet the needs of children and young people.
  • Promote excellence in clinical care, supporting evidence-based practice while acting as shift co-ordinator on a rota basis.
  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns and potential harm, abuse or neglect, and take steps to protect the young person.

Experience in mental health services and knowledge of child and adolescent mental health is desirable; the right values, attitude and willingness to learn are essential. You will understand relevant legislation (e.g. MHA, MCA, Children's Act), safeguarding, clinical risk assessment and management, and their application in practice.

Nursing candidates must have 18 months post-qualifying experience including sign-off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework at the time of applying.

Job responsibilities

The post requires a shift pattern that includes days and night shifts over a 7-day period, pro rata for bank holidays.

The candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively with others.

You will be expected to work shift patterns covering a 24/7 service provision across the NYY locality. Bases include York, Scarborough and Ripon. You may be required to travel between bases to meet clinical demand; mileage can be claimed or you may use the team pool car.

The candidate should demonstrate good leadership to coordinate the day-to-day running of a shift. A good understanding of children's mental health and emotional wellbeing needs is required. You should work well with partner agencies to meet the needs of children and young people.
