Job Overview
The Overnight Public Safety Dispatcher is responsible for operating the Public Safety communications center during overnight hours. This position serves as the primary point of contact for emergency and non-emergency communications, monitors security systems, and supports campus safety operations during reduced staffing hours. The role requires strong multitasking ability, attention to detail, independent decision-making, and the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Answer and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Dispatch officers and monitor officer status and location.
- Maintain radio communications throughout the shift.
- Monitor CCTV, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and access control systems.
- Escalate incidents according to departmental protocol.
- Maintain detailed activity logs.
- Enter calls for service accurately and in real-time into the CAD system.
- Complete incident logs and shift reports.
- Enter and reconcile parking citations.
- Review and audit CAD entries for accuracy.
- Update lost and found records.
- Maintain key inventory logs.
- Assist with report narrative cleanup and documentation review.
- Conduct access control reconciliation and camera time checks.
- Complete assigned overnight projects during low-volume periods.
- Conduct system checks of alarm and camera systems.
- Monitor campus activity during reduced staffing hours.
- Secure the Public Safety office and control access.
- Prepare end-of-shift summary and documentation for incoming staff.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to type and enter data accurately.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to pass background screening.
- Previous dispatch, security, or call center experience.
- Experience working overnight shifts.
- Familiarity with CAD systems, CCTV monitoring, or access control systems.
- Experience in a higher education environment.
- Required to work overnight hours.
- Required to work rotating weekends and holidays as assigned.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to manage multiple systems simultaneously.
Primary shift: 10:00 PM - 8:00 AM (10-hour shift). Four shifts per week (40 hours total). Two-week rotating schedule that includes every other weekend. Salary: $18 per hour. Overtime may be required during peak seasons.
