The Industrial Process Engineer is responsible for designing, standardizing, and improving manufacturing and repair processes across Exline’s R&M division. This role partners with Operations, Project Management, Quality, Mechanical Services, and Ignition & Automation to reduce variability, improve throughput, and elevate first-pass yield for reciprocating engines, compressors, and related components. The engineer leads data-driven problem solving, owns standard work and routings, and ensures processes meet OEM/customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Map end-to-end value streams for common Exline jobs and define standard work, setup sheets, routing steps, inspection plans, and digital travelers.
- Author and maintain SOPs and work instructions with clear critical to quality standards, tolerances, gaging methods, and acceptance criteria, and integrate OEM/customer specs.
- Establish process control plans for various processes including but not limited to machining, grinding, honing, thermal spray, and post-coating finishing to ensure repeatability and documented traceability.
- Lead and implement continuous improvement efforts.
- Partner with Project Managers, leads, and supervisors to deploy digital travelers, tracking systems, and real-time status boards for job visibility.
- Build dashboards for metric tracking.
- Embed quality gates with documented criteria at disassembly, inspection, machining, coating, assembly, and final test; align to OEM, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor project progress against milestones; proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, schedule risks, and resource conflicts.
- Serve as the central point of contact for assigned projects, facilitating communication between shop floor, engineering, quality, field service, and customer service teams.
- Document and communicate project status, changes, and issues to stakeholders; maintain accurate records in ERP systems.
- Interpret customer requirements and ensure they are translated into actionable work instructions and quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to all team members.
- Stay up to date with advancements in machining technologies and methodologies to enhance processes.
Duties are performed both independently and under direction of management. Recommends, designs and implements controls and process improvements/efficiencies based on department objectives. Consults with supervisor regarding major policy decisions.
RequiredSkills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in CAD and familiarity with CNC programming workflows; able to translate prints/specs into practical routings and control plans.
- Experience with or ability to learn hands‑on gaging and metrology: micrometers, bore gages, dial indicators, surface finish, hardness, runout.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and ask for assistance when appropriate.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or similar Engineering field.
- 3-7 years of process engineering in industrial setting.
- Strong analytical and technical troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency with engineering software, programs and tools.
This position is on the shop floor 60% and office 40%. Environment may require use of PPE including hearing protection, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc. Use of a computer, tablet, hoist, forklift, and tools are required. Occasional travel to customer locations may be required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Physical RequirementsThis position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks on a regular basis. The employee must be able to stand, walk, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time. Frequent use of hands and arms is required for handling, feeling, grasping, and operating tools or equipment. The role also requires adequate visual acuity, as well as the ability to communicate effectively through speech and hearing.
The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
