Position: AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC with Security Clearance

Responsibilities

  • You will troubleshoot and repair operational engines in aircraft or modified engines in test cells if correcting the defects will require extensive disassembly.
  • You will determine methods of repairs to use, degree of disassembly necessary and serviceability of parts or rework required before reassembly.
  • You will repair and rework engine parts and components, and replace accessories such as portions of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • You will oversee a segment of total engine assembly, and advise and assist lower graded workers in solving technical problems.
  • You will use measuring devices to detect and locate source(s) of vibration in propellers, reduction gears, or engine rotors to check engine combustion and to read multiple parameters in oil, air, vacuum, and torque.
  • You will identify and choose between alternative methods and trade techniques, adapt repair procedures to new or unfamiliar engines or accessory systems, anticipate tools and parts required, and set up work areas.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
  • This position requires moderate lifting over 40 lbs. and carrying objects over 40 lbs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
