PositionDescription
The Accounting Manager oversees and performs complex accounting for NCIRE funds, ensuring strong internal controls, accurate fund/grant accounting, and compliance with nonprofit reporting standards and federal funding requirements. This role also supports the Director of Finance in the annual budget, financial reporting, audit preparation, and Indirect Cost Rate calculation and application.
Essential Functions General Accounting & Reporting- Ensure accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting of accounting data.
- Manage daily operations of general ledger and accounting functions.
- Perform monthly closing processes, including preparation of monthly financial statements and analysis.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and federal expenditure reconciliations for accuracy and compliance.
- Perform financial analysis, research accounting issues, interpret complex financial data, and develop practical solutions to identify risks or discrepancies.
- Oversee and monitor grant accounting to ensure compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and sponsor‑specific requirements.
- Provide responsive customer service to the research community, including guidance on accounting policies, procedures, and transactions.
- Coordinate the Quarterly Expenditure Certificate process by distributing certification documents to Principal Investigators, tracking returns, and ensuring all forms are signed and submitted.
- Supervise accounting staff responsible for:
- Payroll and benefit project cost allocations
- Billing and accounts receivable
- Complex cost transfers and miscellaneous general ledger postings
- Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback to support staff development and ensure high‑quality work.
- Serve as backup for payroll processing.
- Update employees’ 403(b) contributions and complete quarterly retirement plan reconciliations.
- Serve as a key contact for external auditors, preparing schedules, analyses, and system documentation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting systems, procedures, and internal control policies.
- Assist in the annual budget development process and support Indirect Cost Rate calculation and application.
- BA/BS in Accounting or Finance; minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience with grant accounting and federal award compliance strongly preferred.
- Prior experience supervising and mentoring staff.
- Payroll experience preferred.
- Experience with Acumatica and UKG highly desirable.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and related tools).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills with all levels of personnel.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- High accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
The work environment for this position is an indoor office environment. The incumbent may sustain posture in a seated position and may utilize a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time.
