Marine Engineer
• Lead Engineer
• Port Engineer – Alcatraz Operation

Salary Range: $45.00 – $49.00

City Experiences is seeking talented engineers for our Alcatraz operation in San Francisco. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

Marine Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Master all duties of the Marine Mechanic position.
  • Lead and perform all diesel engine repairs across the company and fleet.
  • Recommend and install new systems and novel solutions.
  • Repair and replace all pilothouse electronics and diagnose/repair vessel media systems.
  • Serve as liaison between the company and outside contractors.
  • Rebuild and maintain all company pump and pump systems, including alignment & coupling.
  • Apply industry‑standard engineering tools and techniques.
  • Produce OEM‑level craftsmanship of parts and system design.
  • Manage and schedule projects, controlling time and decision making.
  • Report accurately and completely on projects and problems.
  • Mentor Marine Mechanics on knowledge and workmanship.
  • Master all Hybrid Propulsion Systems.
  • Competently troubleshoot and repair electrical systems.
  • Familiarize with all department engineering needs for Alcatraz Island, Pier 33, yard periods, and special projects.
  • Interpret laboratory test data and report summaries or issues to management.
  • Ensure all logs and tasks are completed reliably and accurately.
  • Continuously learn new skills and seek guidance when necessary.
  • Organize workload effectively.
  • Maintain tools and workspace in a clean operational state, performing necessary maintenance.
  • Master pipe, pipe fitting, and fluid control systems.
  • Ensure all engineering systems stay on or ahead of best‑practice maintenance schedules.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of industry experience.
  • Functional understanding of electricity and safe industry practices for working around it.
  • HAZWOPER certificate (40 hours).
  • CPR & First Aid certification.
  • Welding, brazing, soldering, and metalwork experience.
Lead Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Hands‑on expertise in vessel engineering and maintenance.
  • Ensure all vessels exceed minimum standards imposed by the USCG and relevant safety regulations.
  • Design, oversee testing, installation, and repair of marine apparatus and equipment.
  • Conduct analytical, environmental, operational, or performance studies to develop designs for marine engines, equipment, and structures.
  • Prepare or direct detailed drawings, schematics, and product or system layouts.
  • Evaluate operation of marine equipment and analyze data for feasibility of product proposals.
  • Collaborate with research personnel to resolve problems and develop or modify designs.
  • Investigate and observe tests on machinery and equipment for compliance with standards.
  • Conduct environmental, operational, or performance tests on marine machinery and equipment.
  • Determine conditions, sequences, and phases for test operations.
  • Maintain and coordinate repair of marine machinery and equipment.
  • Inspect marine equipment to draw up work requests and job specifications.
  • Review work requests against previous work for cost soundness.
  • Prepare technical reports for engineering, marine operations, and upper management.
  • Maintain contact with contractors and clients to ensure cost‑effective completion of work.
  • Coordinate with regulatory bodies to ensure repairs and alterations meet safety requirements.
  • Procure materials required for marine equipment repairs.
  • Liaise between vessel captains and landing crews to maintain schedules, budgets, and safety.
  • Check, test, and maintain automatic controls and alarm systems.
  • Maintain records of department activities, including expense records and equipment maintenance documentation.
  • Monitor compliance with international regulations for life‑saving equipment and pollution prevention.
  • Prepare plans, estimates, designs, and construction schedules, including special provisions.
  • Schedule machine overhauls and service electrical, heating, ventilation, refrigeration, water, and sewage systems.
  • Supervise other engineers and crew members, providing training for routine and emergency duties.
  • Maintain all equipment to manufacturer specifications.
