The Federation is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with a variety of skill sets who wants to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Grants Associate manages all the core functions of The Frederick J. Isaac Philanthropic Fund, a donor-advised fund of the Jewish Federation Bay Area with annual grantmaking of $500,000 – $650,000. This role works closely with a diverse group of grantee organizations that are selected by invitation to submit proposals for funding. The Isaac Fund makes grants via three cycles per year as well as discretionary grants throughout the year according to the Fund’s priorities.

The Grants Associate will be the primary contact for all applicants, grantees, and The Isaac Fund’s principal donor as well as key professional staff. This role works closely with the philanthropy and marketing teams, and other Federation staff as needed to achieve the Fund’s goals.

The role is mostly remote with occasional in-person day in the office, part-time up to 30 hours a month and reports to Senior Director, Philanthropy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Partner with the Isaac Fund donor and professional staff to shape and refine grantmaking strategy
  • Align grant recommendations with strategic goals
  • Provide proactive evaluation and impact questioning to strengthen decision-making
  • Stay current on relevant grantmaking trends, issues, and best practices
  • Plan and execute three annual grantmaking cycles including: managing calendars, planning agendas, overseeing meeting logistics, preparing materials and managing minutes and follow-up.
  • Coordinate 8–10 meetings with prospective grantees for each of three cycles
  • Facilitate two proposal review meetings per cycle
  • Plan and execute off-cycle grants as needed
  • Oversee grant reporting processes in coordination with donors and staff
  • Ensure timely collection and review of grantee reports
  • Track grant progress and outcomes
  • Support evaluation and impact assessment efforts
Cross-Functional Coordination & Operations
  • Partner with the centralized grants management team to ensure accurate processing, acknowledgment, and tracking of grants
  • Maintain organized records and documentation across grant cycles
Communications & External Engagement
  • Collaborate with marketing on communication materials (e.g., Annual Report)
  • Engage with professional communities and educational programs relevant to grantmaking
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple detail-oriented projects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituents
  • Well-rounded knowledge of the grantmaking process through work in another grantmaking setting
  • Demonstrated personal and professional integrity within the work environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (SharePoint, etc.), experience with Salesforce is a plus
  • Familiarity with Bay Area non-profit organizations preferred
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience in grants management, nonprofit administration, or related fields.
