Engineering Manager

Overview

Flo Qast is building the next generation of accounting automation powered by AI. We are looking for engineering leaders who believe that AI fundamentally changes how software is designed, written, and operated. This role is for technical leaders who still think like engineers. If you enjoy debugging distributed systems, reviewing architecture, mentoring strong engineers, and shipping production systems using AI‑assisted development, we would love to talk.

San Jose, CA OR Los Angeles office – 3 days per week on site (hybrid).

• Lead a highly technical team, managing a small group of engineers and tech leads, enabling technical excellence and removing friction rather than coordinating delivery.
• Build and scale backend systems for a large‑scale SaaS platform used by thousands of companies, including distributed backend services, scalable data pipelines, highly reliable production systems, and APIs that power accounting automation.
• Build AI‑powered product capabilities such as AI‑driven workflow automation, intelligent agents across accounting processes, and systems integrating LLM reasoning with financial data models.
• Drive AI‑first development by actively using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to accelerate development and guide teams.
• Help define how AI changes software design, code generation, debugging, testing, and refactoring.
• Set the technical bar by participating in architecture reviews, system design discussions, major code reviews, and providing technical mentorship.

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience and experience operating large‑scale SaaS platforms.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and data models, plus comfort debugging production systems.
• A technical mindset that allows you to write code, review pull requests, and discuss architecture trade‑offs.
• Experience using AI‑assisted development tools such as Claude, Cursor, or similar environments.
• Strong mentorship experience: mentoring tech leads, growing senior engineers, removing blockers, and helping teams move faster without sacrificing quality.
• Experience building AI agents, LLM‑powered workflows, or AI‑assisted developer tooling is a strong plus.
