Position Summary

At JBT Marel, your role as a Manufacturing Engineer at our Sandusky, OH facility will report directly to the Director of Operations. This onsite position focuses on collaborating with shop floor staff, cross‑functional teams, and ensuring efficient, high‑quality manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities
  • Lead efforts to improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Ensure product and process quality by designing advanced testing methods, testing finished‑product and process capabilities, establishing and maintaining high standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provide strategic manufacturing decision‑making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; and estimating future requirements.
  • Develop and implement advanced manufacturing methods to improve utilization standards and cost, promoting efficient staff, facility, and materials utilization.
  • Determine and optimize best processes, tools, sequences, and techniques to ensure on‑time delivery of low‑cost, quality products.
  • Create and refine routings, establish time standards, and determine material usage requirements for manufactured parts and components.
  • Research and analyze material, labor, and overhead requirements to provide accurate cost estimates for parts, processes, and projects.
  • Provide comprehensive manufacturing engineering information to the shop floor by communicating new product releases and ECNs, and answering questions and requests.
  • Manage and improve cost‑estimating tools for accuracy and flexibility; investigate and resolve variances from cost‑estimating tools.
  • Support quality initiatives by creating and editing work instructions, conducting root‑cause analysis of quality issues, and assisting with quality inspections of both internally and externally sourced parts.
  • Mentor and train junior manufacturing engineers, providing guidance on best practices and technical expertise.
  • Lead cross‑functional project teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement new technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of manufacturing experience with exposure to metal fabrication, finishing, welding equipment, assembly, and processes.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading projects and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD systems (Inventor preferred), ERP applications (Syteline preferred), and Microsoft Office.
  • Extensive knowledge of stainless‑steel material specifications, machining, and fabrication procedures.
  • In‑depth knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing and 5S methodology.
  • Advanced understanding of drawing layout schemes and protocols, including views, sections, tolerances, symbols, and notes.
  • Proficiency in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and other mathematics for analysis, design, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex technical information, specifications, drawings, and processes while dealing with multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey a complete understanding of complex production processes, practices, and techniques.
  • Strong judgment and decision‑making ability to consider relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
  • Teamwork skills to collaborate with professionals from diverse backgrounds and bridge technical and business perspectives.
