Piper Companies is seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager to drive the end‑to‑end development of complex hardware systems, from concept through production. The Hardware Engineering manager will oversee system‑level hardware involving high‑speed optical and electrical interfaces. The Hardware Engineering Manager will collaborate closely with product management, architecture, ASIC, software, and ODM/JDM partners to deliver high‑performing systems. This is a fulltime senior‑level leadership position requiring this person to be onsite 5 days a week in Saratoga, CA.
Responsibilitiesfor the Hardware Engineering Manager include:
- Leading cross‑functional efforts to translate high‑level requirements into detailed hardware specifications.
- Overseeing hardware design activities including schematic entry, PCB layout, and design reviews.
- Managing Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) analysis processes.
- Developing technology de‑risking plans through supplier assessments and early prototype cycles.
- Managing test strategy and execution, including Bring‑Up, EDVT, MDVT, and EMI/EMC validation.
- Driving systems from early prototypes through full production while meeting quality, cost, schedule, and budget goals.
- Managing ODM/JDM development partners, ensuring timely, high‑quality deliverables.
- Leading and growing a hardware development team, including recruiting, mentorship, and individual performance support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required;
Master’s degree preferred. - 10+ years of experience in system‑level hardware development within server, computing, or networking environments.
- Proficiency with high‑speed technologies such as Ethernet, PCIe, Ser Des, and optical interfaces.
- Strong understanding of high‑speed design fundamentals, signal integrity, and power integrity.
- Familiarity with FPGA development, power circuitry, and clocking architecture.
- Solid system‑level understanding of chassis design, connectors, cabling, and thermal considerations.
- Demonstrated experience delivering production hardware using industry‑standard development processes.
- Salary range: $210,000 - $260,000
