Job Purpose
The Senior Bearing Engineer is responsible for designing and supporting the production of high performance bearings used in various engineering applications. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in bearing design. The Senior Bearings Engineer will work closely with project managers, suppliers, and engineering teams to ensure accurate production and testing.
Key Responsibilities
Coordination
Participate in project technical meetings to discuss design requirements and provide engineering expertise and technical guidance.
Follow up with suppliers on the production of bearing components, ensuring all specifications, quality standards, and technical drawings are adhered to.
Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to address technical questions and quality assurance concerns.
Documentation
Review “As built” QA documentation for all bearing parts being transferred to customers, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
Maintain and update the engineering documentation list, including revisions, technical documents, and version control.
Support in developing and producing Inspection Test Plans (ITP) for the Project Manager.
Technical Engineering
Produce and review bearing drawings prior to customer release, ensuring they meet technical and project specifications.
Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of bearing, components and systems.
Generate technical reports related to bearing performance (ARMD/ Gen Mat), assembly, inspection outcomes, failure analysis, and proposed improvements.
Present new concepts independently or as a support during client meeting with technical aspects.
Provide technical support to manufacturing shops, answering questions, witnessing tests, and participating in quality assurance processes.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Design.
Experience:
Minimum 5–10+ years experience in bearing design.
Technical
Skills:
Proficiency in CAD software for drawing and designing mechanical components (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD).
Microsoft 0ffice 365 (SharePoint, Word, Excel, etc.).
Documentation
Skills:
Experience reviewing and generating technical documentation, including quality assurance reports and inspection plans.
Communication:
Verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with suppliers, internal teams, and clients.
Competencies
Expertise in plain/hydro dynamic lubricated bearing design and a solid understanding of technical specifications, materials, and tolerances.
Analytical skills for producing detailed technical reports and troubleshooting design-related issues. Must be able to effectively communicate and/or introduce new designs to client and also able to discuss or elaborate on any technical issues to ensure clarity.
Medium/Strong expertise in calculations & simulation.
Able to work independently.
Able to make technical decisions.
Able to support or guide others.
Working Conditions
From Monday to Friday. 8 hours dayshift. Overtime may be required.
