Description of Work

The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a 34,000‑acre facility near Clay Center, NE that supports research focused on solving high‑priority problems for the U.S. beef cattle, sheep, and swine industries.

As a Construction Tech I, you will:

  • Assist the Construction Supervisor with new construction, repair, and maintenance of existing facilities, including remote buildings, livestock working facilities, livestock water systems, and monitoring and maintaining waste lift stations. This includes electrical, carpentry, plumbing, concrete, and welding work.

Position requires irregular hours, work in inclement weather, and work in livestock facilities.

Minimum

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED plus one year of combined experience in construction trades such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, concrete, welding, or similar work; equivalent education and experience considered.
  • Knowledge and skills to provide support in one or multiple construction trade areas.
  • Valid driver’s license and meeting University driver eligibility requirements.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. Subject to DOT‑approved pre‑employment and random testing for alcohol and controlled substances.
  • Criminal history background check required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and/or training in multiple construction trades.
  • Machinery operation and maintenance skills.
  • Experience working with and around livestock.
