Join Nebraska Public Power District as a Line Technician. Perform construction, maintenance and operation of electrical systems, including transmission, subtransmission, and distribution lines, substations, and equipment. Take assigned standby duty, perform pole work, and provide storm support.
Key Responsibilities- Construct, maintain, and operate transmission, subtransmission and distribution lines and facilities.
- Perform after‑hours standby duty on a regular basis.
- Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height to perform required work.
- Provide storm support both in and out of state.
- Operate and maintain district vehicles and hydraulic equipment.
- Install and maintain services, and install and remove meters.
- Analyze outages, troubleshoot service‑related problems, and initiate corrective action.
- Maintain accurate and timely record‑keeping of material, time, and equipment documents; issue and return supplies.
- Perform energized line work (Journey Line Technician required to work 34.5 kV and below).
- Travel as assigned and be available per on‑call schedules and storm support.
- Graduate of an accredited line technician school (certificate, diploma, or associate’s degree); OR
- Certificate from a district‑approved program; OR
- Documented line technician experience with another utility or electrical contractor equivalent to the formal education options.
- 30 months as an Apprentice Line Technician (normal previous experience) and completion of the Line Technician written exam.
- 4 years of combined experience at the Apprentice and Line Technician levels (normal minimum for progression to Journey Line Technician).
- Red Cross Community CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Pole Top and Bucket Truck Rescue certifications.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Switchman certification obtained within the first six months of employment.

Apprentice – $39.29 /h;
Line Technician – $47.15 /h;
Journey Line Technician – $56.06 /h. - Eligible for Annual Incentive Program (AIP) to supplement total compensation.
