The Department of English and Writing seeks highly qualified adjunct faculty to teach first‑year writing courses and, when available, upper‑level courses such as professional and organizational writing, public speaking, creative writing, and literature.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Provide support and guidance to students, including holding office hours.
- Instruct assigned courses by preparing syllabi and instructional materials.
- Use the university learning management system to deliver instruction.
- Report mid‑semester and final grades electronically.
- Participate in departmental course assessment as needed.
- Teach introductory courses (e.g., ENG 101) and, when available, upper‑level courses such as professional and organizational writing, public speaking, creative writing, and literature.
- Possess knowledge of writing pedagogy; flexibility to teach in multiple modalities (face‑to‑face, online synchronous, online asynchronous) is a plus.
- Attend occasional meetings with the Department Chair and other faculty to discuss pedagogical issues.
- Cooperate with course coordinators or other program faculty to ensure quality and consistency across the program.
- Master’s Degree in English or related field.
- Access to up‑to‑date technology.
- ABD or PhD in Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, or Creative Writing.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Willingness to be flexible in class scheduling.
- Facility with hybrid and online modes of instruction.
- May require standing for long periods of time.
- May require talking for long periods of time.
- May require carrying course materials.
- Fully online or in‑person only.
Adjunct compensation is determined by education and relevant work experience. The university maintains a pay structure and approach to pay and benefits transparency.
