General Labor, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Responsibilities
- Repair office furniture and equipment (e.g., staplers, file cabinets, cubicle components, lock mechanisms).
- Build and assemble furniture as directed by work orders.
- Determine maintenance needs and replace parts such as wheels, chair mechanisms, and locks.
- Maintain parts inventory and communicate needs to management.
- Load and unload trucks, move pallets, lift boxes up to 50lbs, and transport items in carts.
- Drive a small truck or van to local sites for work, and occasionally make deliveries and pick‑ups at the Post Office.
- Perform all other position‑related duties as assigned.
- Experience in office furniture repair, installation, or related trades.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage service calls.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools.
- Capable of lifting 50lbs.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two (2) years of job‑related experience, including basic computer operations.
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation; ability to operate a government general‑purpose vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to travel, including regular travel to New York City (NYC).
- Experience with commercial furniture brands such as Steelcase, Herman Miller, Haworth, or Knoll.
- Experience with furniture locks or locksmith services.
- Customer service or field service experience.
- Forklift experience.
Standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing are frequent. Occasional sitting and balancing may be required. Tasks involve lifting or moving up to 10lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Visual acuity for close, distance, color, and peripheral vision is needed. Employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, wet or humid conditions, fumes, outdoor weather, extreme cold, and electrical shock.
Noise levels can be loud or unsafe. Travel and potential security clearance may be required.
Hourly pay: $23.64 (SCA‑regulated). Overtime‑eligible. Includes Health & Welfare (H&W) dollars, which may be deposited into a 401(k) account.
