General Maintenance Technician – Lincoln University

Position SummaryThe General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a wide range of routine maintenance, repair, and operational tasks across campus facilities. This includes basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC support, and general building upkeep. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, safety‑focused, and capable of troubleshooting and resolving facility issues in a timely manner.
Responsibilities- Perform general maintenance and repairs on campus buildings, classrooms, residence halls, and common areas
- Troubleshoot and repair basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical issues
- Replace light fixtures, outlets, switches, plumbing fixtures, filters, and hardware
- Perform minor carpentry, drywall repair, painting, and general building repairs
- Conduct routine inspections of building systems and identify maintenance needs
- Respond to work orders and emergency repair requests in a timely manner
- Assist skilled trades (plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians) as needed
- Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance shop in clean and safe condition
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules and campus safety procedures
- Document completed work, materials used, and job status in maintenance systems
- Support campus events, setups, and special facility needs
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2+ years of general maintenance or facilities experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to read work orders, manuals, and basic technical drawings
- Experience working in commercial, institutional, or campus environments preferred
- Valid driver’s license may be required depending on campus location
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and move throughout campus for extended periods
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined or elevated spaces
- Exposure to varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions
Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment - Must be able to respond quickly to emergency maintenance situations
