Civil Engineering / Earthworks / Enabling Works

We are working with a long-established North East civil engineering contractor looking to appoint a Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer with strong earthworks experience.

This is a permanent opportunity with a respected regional contractor delivering earthworks, enabling works, platforms, cut and fill, drainage, roads, remediation and wider civil engineering packages across multiple live sites in the North East.

The Role

You will support the delivery of multiple earthworks and civil engineering schemes across the region, taking ownership of setting out, surveying, levels, as-built records, QA documentation, volume checks and technical support across live sites. You will work closely with Site Managers, Contracts Managers, operatives, plant teams, subcontractors and the wider delivery team. The role requires someone who is accurate, organised and able to interpret drawings, specifications and schedules, while identifying issues early and helping the team keep works on programme and to specification.

The position can be considered at either Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer level, depending on experience.

Project Types

The contractor delivers a varied portfolio of earthworks and civil engineering packages across commercial developments, housing developments and specialist schemes, including bulk earthworks, cut and fill, platforms, enabling works, roads, drainage, remediation, external works and wider civils packages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out accurate setting out and surveying across live earthworks and civil engineering sites.
  • Manage control, levels, as-builts, QA records, volume checks and site engineering documentation.
  • Use Trimble GPS, Trimble Machine Control and recognised survey software to support efficient site delivery.
  • Work with LSS, n4ce or similar software for surfaces, strings, volumes and data management.
  • Interpret drawings, specifications and schedules, raising issues or programme risks at an early stage.
  • Support site teams with technical queries, progress reporting, quality checks and day-to-day coordination.
  • Liaise professionally with site management, operatives, subcontractors, supply chain partners and visiting stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer within civil engineering or earthworks.
  • Strong background in earthworks, platforms, cut and fill, roads, drainage, remediation, enabling works or similar civils packages.
  • Confident setting out and surveying across live construction sites.
  • Proficient with Trimble GPS and Trimble Machine Control.
  • Working knowledge of LSS, n4ce or similar earthworks / survey software would be highly beneficial.
  • HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering would be advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence and a reliable, accurate and proactive approach to work.
The Opportunity

This is a strong long-term opportunity with a well-established North East contractor offering a healthy regional workload, varied technically interesting projects and genuine progression opportunities. The company is known for pragmatic leadership, strong repeat relationships, a team-first culture and investment in modern plant, GPS, machine control and digital workflows.

Package

The package includes a competitive salary, choice of company vehicle or car allowance, pension and company benefits. The role also offers regional North East work, modern kit, supportive leadership, professional development, strong safety standards and well-structured QA processes.
