Job Title: THRIVE Director
Exemption Status/Test: Nonexempt/ Professional
Reports to: Director of Special Programs
Dept./School: Special Programs/THRIVE (Alternative Learning Center)
Primary Purpose:
Effectively direct and manage the district programs housed at the alternative learning center, including DAEP, off-campus ALC, and Tiger Transition. Coordinate these district programs for students who are at risk by collaborating with district and campus staff, parents, and outside organizations to facilitate services, opportunities, and support for students. Oversee district's efforts in the areas of discipline management by monitoring data entry and discipline trends, providing behavior resources and supports, and working with campus administrators in providing fair and consistent implementation of the student code of conduct.
Coordinate elementary summer school program (includes bilingual, ESY, and acceleration programs, etc.).
Qualifications/ Experience:
Education/Certification:
- Master's degree in educational administration
- Valid Texas Principal Certification or equivalent
- Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser
- Complete AEL training
- Complete CPI training (or ability to complete)
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to student discipline
- Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and laws
- Ability to deliver effective training to a variety of audiences
- Ability to work effectively with students to manage their behaviors
- Strong consultation skills for conferencing with staff, students, and parents
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to mediate, problem solve, and resolve conflict
- Knowledge of Edgenuity and Ascender
- Training in Youth Mental Health First Aid and trauma
- 2 years of educator administrator experience preferred
- 5 years of teaching experience

Program Management
- Responsible for the administration of the daily organization of DAEP, off-campus ALC, Tiger Transition program, 18+, and summer school activities.
- Ensure that program rules, expectations, consequences, and procedures are clearly communicated and provided to each student and parent.
- Collaborate on DAEP placements and coordinate with other district teams on discretionary placements when needed.
- Employ effective strategies to promote student compliance with rules, expectations, and operating procedures and assist in the supervision of all students.
- Provide individual academic assistance to students as needed to ensure student growth.
- Communicate and monitor the implementation of student 504 plans, Individualized Educational Plans, and Behavioral Intervention Plans.
- Conduct student intake and transition meetings as necessary.
- Conduct parent conferences, faculty and staff meetings, and professional development opportunities as needed.
- Contribute to the development of program goals to reduce school failure and dropout rates.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with employees, SISD campus staff, district personnel, community members, volunteers, and district partners.
- Know and comply with all federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and local board, district, and campus guidelines, regulations, routines, and operating procedures.
- Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to the job assignment.
- Exercise strict professional confidentiality.
- Suggest and implement changes to programs as needed.
- Provide support and resources to proactively assist students, parents, and school staff before, during, and after challenging situations, including those related to alcohol use, substance use, and mental health concerns.
- Coordinate and integrate school and community resources and refer students and parents to community resources when appropriate.
- Review, update, and publish the Student Code of Conduct.
