Tutoring
Overview
Early-literacy tutors work one-on-one with elementary-school students to support their growth in writing, reading, and more. Sessions typically center on foundational skills—phonics, decoding, reading fluency, comprehension, and early writing—with each tutor drawing on their own methods and materials to meet the needs of the student in front of them. You decide how to structure your sessions and adapt your approach as you see fit.
Logisticsand Hours
Tutors choose when, where, and with whom they are open to working. We do not have an office, so tutors generally meet students at public libraries. Building up to your desired number of hours usually takes some time, and even our busiest tutors rarely exceed 20 hours per week, since families typically seek tutoring during after-school hours and on weekends.
CommitmentThere are some hoops to jump through in getting started, and students will often work with the same tutor for a full academic year or more, so this position will not make sense if you re just looking for a couple months of work.
