Industrial Instrument Technician – West Point Treatment Plant. Two positions are available and the posting remains open until filled. This role is part of an instrumentation and electrical team dedicated to maintaining and improving plant operations.
About the RoleIndustrial Instrument Technician performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and modification of computerized systems and instrumentation throughout wastewater facilities. Duties include installing, integrating, programming, maintaining, and repairing SCADA, DCS, PLCs, PID control loops, and related equipment.
Participation in large- and small-scale plant reliability improvement projects is expected.
What You Will Be Doing- Perform installation, preventive maintenance, modifications, upgrades, analysis, and diagnostics on DCS, SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, telemetry and networking.
- Work with operations personnel, engineers, and suppliers to explain processes and procedures needed for new equipment operation.
- Review or modify shop drawings and process documentation to conform with plant standards; assist with inspections of instrumentation installed by contractors; witness and assess loop commission testing.
- Make recommendations on purchasing and inventory requirements for instrument‑related equipment.
- Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain plant computer, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation, control and monitoring systems.
- At least three years of journey-level experience in industrial instrumentation or a related field.
- Knowledge of physics, chemistry, and mathematical techniques (algebra, trigonometry, geometry) applicable to duties.
- Experience with installation, configuration and maintenance of analyzers/sensors, control system computers, single‑loop controllers, signal converters, DCS, SCADA, detection equipment, fuses, indicators, isolators, PLCs, pneumatic equipment, control valves, actuators, positioners, and various transmitters.
- Knowledge of PID control loops, soldering techniques, and industrial process analysis.
- Proficiency with computer software, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, single‑loop controllers, PLCs, and SCADA/DCS networking.
- Lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds; use of ladders required.
- Outdoor work in wet weather; exposure to confined spaces, hazardous chemicals, and noxious odors.
- Valid, unencumbered Washington State Driver’s License.
- Completion of a technical degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent training demonstrating journey-level instrumentation and control status.
- Programming experience with Ovation DCS Controls.
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC and panel‑view programming.
- Telemetry experience.
- Wastewater industry experience.
