Operates Motor Coach to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of persons to college events, programs, training and athletics via streets, roads and highways. Assists in trip planning and logistics in order to provide quality services to our employees and students. Assists in maintaining the vehicles with inspections, cleaning, and documentation.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

This position is a specialist with responsibilities to maintain proper commercial driver's licensure, operate up to 56 passenger motor coach vehicles, and comply with state and federal regulations.

Individual reports to the Director and Manager of the Facilities Management Department and must demonstrate possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

* Inspects coach before and after usage using pre- and post-trip checklists

* Operates vehicle over specified routes or to specified destinations according to schedules and within posted speed limits, complying with state and federal laws

* Demonstrates exceptional customer service

* Most trips are day trips with the occasional overnight trip

* Responsible for the safety and well-being of the passengers

* Parks vehicle at loading areas for safe boarding and departure, while ensuring open coach doors are always attended

* Advises passengers of college regulations and policies concerning eating, cell phones, time of arrival, etc.

* Regulates heat, lighting, ventilating and entertainment systems as needed

* Stocks materials and supplies as needed

* Reports mechanical issues as directed

* Removes a bus from service for safety issues or repairs and notifies supervisor

* Must know, understand, and comply with all Federal Motor Carrier Regulations for hours of service, fit for duty, and vehicle inspections

* Cleans motor coach as needed, interior and exterior, including lavatories

* Fuels motor coach as needed

* Other Duties as Assigned

The preceding duties have been provided as examples of the essential types of work performed by positions within this job classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind work assignments as needed.

* Must have a valid commercial driver's license, Class A or B, with Passenger Endorsement and Air Brakes if required for the vehicle they are operating.

* Must have had above license for a minimum of 5 years

* Must have knowledge to operate a motor coach in a safe and effective manner.

* Must have situational awareness to watch gauges, dials, monitor coach wellness, be flexible with routes

* Must be able to maintain schedules, be familiar with the motor coaches,

* Must be able to communicate with active listening and talking to others to convey information effectively and politely

* Must have math skills necessary to calculate passenger counts, driving logs, time increments, etc.

* Must have vision necessary to safely operate a motor coach at all hours of the day

* Must have reflexes, reaction time, hand-eye coordination, and control precision necessary to safely operate a motor coach

* Must have response orientation - ability to choose quickly between two or more movements in response to two or more signals.

* Must have spatial orientation - ability to know your location in relation to environment

* Must have self-control - requires maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check and avoiding aggressive behavior.

* Must have dependability - being reliable, responsible, and fulfilling obligations including routes chosen or assigned

Work involves moderate physical activity. There is frequent driving and operating a motor coach vehicle for long periods of time. Occasional walking, standing, and lifting required. There is an occasional need to lift objects and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.
