Job Summary
Geisinger offers a per diem Nursing Assistant position with market‑leading pay rates, up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights and weekend shifts, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become an RN.
Candidates We Are Looking ForThe ideal candidate is highly motivated, committed to delivering high‑quality care, and able to meet both orientation and long‑term full‑time scheduling requirements. Reliability, punctuality, strong attendance, responsiveness, teamwork, and communication skills are essential. A proactive presence helps ensure exceptional patient outcomes.
Responsibilities- Provide patient care as directed within the nursing assistant scope of practice in accordance with the multidisciplinary care plan.
- Identify, observe and document patient physical needs, reporting changes in condition to licensed personnel promptly.
- Obtain and maintain specimen integrity in accordance with policy and physician orders.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, hygiene, and changing linens.
- Provide one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned, following established policies.
- Accurately process specimens and transport them to the laboratory.
- Perform point‑of‑care patient testing and maintain point‑of‑care instruments and quality control.
- Assist in troubleshooting and corrective measures for equipment and supplies.
- Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
- Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths, transcribing and processing orders per unit standards.
- Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments.
- Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests and facilities.
- Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information relevant to the unit.
- Assist in ordering supplies, stationery, floor stock, and patient needs.
- Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain clerical equipment including scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, and phones.
- Assist with non‑controlled medication transport within the unit, to and from Pharmacy, and blood product transport to and from Blood Bank.
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Minimum of 1 year related work experience (Preferred)
- Consecutive two‑week classroom orientation (7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday‑Friday)
- No prior experience required; comprehensive on‑the‑job training provided.
