Job Overview

At Boeing Sheffield, we celebrate our unique way of transforming our lean Production System to align the site’s safety, quality and continuous improvement plans. We are looking for CNC Machinists who will report to the Operations Manager and join one of our shift teams. The ideal candidate will be fully engaged, adaptable, a team player and problem solver with excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, change over and operate a range of mill-turn, twin turret, CNC grinding machines or sliding head machines and machining centres by installing and adjusting work holding, tooling and tool wear offsets.
  • Efficiently and productively load and safely operate a range of CNC machines ensuring that downtime is minimized.
  • Run multiple machines / set‑ups (multi‑task).
  • Recognize, deploy and properly use inserts, work holding and tooling.
  • Efficiently identify production process tool wear and timely adjust, replace worn, broken or damaged cutting tools.
  • Verify programs and settings using measuring / inspection equipment and apply appropriate adjustments to ensure component quality is maintained.
  • Provide timely feedback to the Line Manager on issues and recommendations for process and/or quality improvement.
  • Routinely electronically register and record all process operations on all machine tools used and maintain results daily.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities within the machining section.
  • Ensure daily / weekly / monthly maintenance tasks are carried out as required.
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping.
  • Always adhere to company procedures.
  • Support with any other ad‑hoc tasks where required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as may be requested to support the business within various production areas, manufacturing facilities or elsewhere as may be required.
  • Take a responsible and proactive approach to health, safety and environmental risks in relation to your own role and control or report them to management as appropriate.
  • Train and mentor other machinists / apprentices on site.
Basic Qualifications
  • Skilled, experience‑served engineer with experience of setting and operating CNC machines
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Good IT skills
  • Communicates honestly, professionally and respectfully with others and demonstrates effective listening skills
  • Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery
Preferred Qualifications
  • A strong working knowledge of cutting tool setting and applications and competence with complex fixtures
  • Understanding of work‑shift and tool‑wear compensation / offsets
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations (trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions)
  • Experience working to tight tolerances in a wide range of materials
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining processes and work independently
  • Ability to train and mentor others
  • Comfortable working within an ISO 9001 controlled environment
  • Experience in a dynamic sub‑contract machining environment
  • Ability to reduce setup time and machining through process improvements
  • Experience of aerospace machining and AS9100 requirements, with other regulated industries considered
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Good IT skills
  • Typical experience: time‑served machinist with CNC experience or a minimum of HNC qualified machinist
