Job Description & How to Apply Below

We’re looking for a proactive and reliable Deputy Shop Manager to help run our busy charity shops. This is a hands on role where no two days are the same, from merchandising and stock sorting to supporting volunteers and delivering great customer service.

You’ll work closely with the Shop Manager to keep everything running smoothly and step up to lead the shop when they’re away. It’s a great opportunity for someone who enjoys retail, working with people and being part of a supportive team.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the day to day running of the shop, ensuring it’s well organised, welcoming and ready for customers
  • Helping to drive sales by creating attractive displays and maintaining high shop floor standards
  • Assisting with stock management: sorting, pricing and displaying donated goods
  • Leading the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager
  • Supporting the recruitment, training and motivation of volunteers
  • Delivering excellent customer service and creating a positive shopping experience
  • Handling cash, banking and shop administration accurately
  • Ensuring health and safety and security procedures are followed at all times
  • Promoting the shop and the wider work of the organisation in the local community
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in a retail or customer‑facing role
  • Confidence working with a wide range of people, including volunteers
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, approachable manner
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to use your own initiative and solve problems
  • A team‑focused attitude with a willingness to support others
  • Experience supervising staff or volunteers is helpful but not essential
Personal Attributes
  • A natural people person who enjoys helping customers and supporting colleagues
  • Practical and hands‑on, happy to take on a variety of tasks
  • Motivated to achieve targets and keep things running smoothly
  • Calm under pressure and able to juggle priorities
  • Flexible, including occasional weekend or additional hours when needed
Benefits
  • Advantageous terms and conditions of employment
  • Family‑friendly: we work with you to make your role fit your personal circumstances
  • Working here means you are very important to us and your health and wellbeing matters
  • Generous learning and development opportunities
  • Other miscellaneous benefits to our employees
Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)

The job-holder can expect to work in a space that is free from barriers and attitudes that are free from prejudice. We seek to employ, engage with, and care equally for all we encounter; striving to make our employment, volunteering, events and services free from barriers, and our attitudes free from prejudice, and treating everyone as a unique individual, providing the best experience that we can for each person.
