We are working with a growing construction consultancy delivering high-quality projects across construction sectors throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an ambitious and motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a degree-qualified Quantity Surveyor with around 2 years' industry experience who is looking to further develop their career within a supportive and fast-paced construction environment.

Role Overview

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team in managing project costs, subcontractor packages, valuations, procurement, and financial reporting across multiple construction projects. The successful candidate will work closely with Senior Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered within budget and to the highest commercial standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the commercial management of construction projects from pre-construction through to final account
  • Prepare and assist with subcontractor enquiries, procurement, and package comparisons
  • Support the preparation of interim valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
  • Monitor project costs, variations, and financial performance
  • Assist with subcontractor payment assessments and cost reporting
  • Carry out site visits and attend project meetings where required
  • Support the preparation and management of budgets and forecasts
  • Assist in reviewing contracts and identifying commercial risks
  • Maintain accurate project records and commercial documentation
  • Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams professionally and effectively
Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management
  • Approximately 2 years' experience within a construction or civil engineering environment
  • Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Full UK Driving Licence preferred
Desirable Skills
  • Experience working with JCT or NEC contracts
  • Experience with in either commercial or residential construction projects
  • Knowledge of cost reporting and valuation procedures
  • Familiarity with procurement processes and subcontract management
