About the Position
The Fleet Ballistic Missile program at Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific (SWFPAC) in Silverdale, Washington is seeking an Associate Safety Engineer to support local field site operations. This entry‑level role focuses on recognizing, evaluating, and controlling occupational health hazards or environmental stressors and ensuring adherence to safety standards in areas such as HAZMAT, ordnance handling, injury reporting, fall protection, lock‑out tag‑out, ergonomics, and electrical/mechanical safety.
The incumbent reports directly to the Senior Manager of Base Management and works closely with the Safety Team Lead. Responsibilities will evolve as you become a subject matter expert, helping to identify opportunities for direct action and optimize safety at the facility. The role requires flexibility for variations in work scope and shifts based on production needs, occasional on‑call safety investigations, and the ability to extend work hours to manage unplanned events.
Travel will be minimal (10 % or less).
- Research industry standards such as OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, and locally implemented documentation to prepare rules, standards, and procedures that promote health‑ful work practices.
- Manage the database for all Environmental Safety Health (ESH) forms and coordinate administrative processes for hazardous, industrial, and universal waste.
- Review proposed surveys for new installations or changes to work instructions, escalating incompatibilities to maintain a safe work environment.
- Maintain partnerships across the customer site and internal/external Lockheed Martin organizations.
- Audit programs and conditions at this and potentially other facilities; provide written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement and follow up on implementation.
- Develop new and creative methods to increase employee awareness of and engagement in ESH compliance programs/initiatives, promoting a strong ESH culture across SWFPAC.
- Certificate or degree from an accredited program in a related discipline and/or one year of prior related experience facilitating ESH‑related tasks in a professional setting.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb, kneel, crouch, and operate both indoors and outdoors in an industrial environment with varying temperatures and conditions.
- Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office.
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance; interim Secret clearance required prior to start.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline.
- Initiative and strong follow‑through on assignments.
- Ability to manage priorities and remain flexible.
- Ability to effectively interpret and apply environmental compliance laws of the EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.
- Effective communication and collaboration within a diverse population of peers and leadership.
- Prior experience with ESH environments involving ordnance and/or hazardous waste.
This position requires U.S. citizenship and a Secret Clearance. The applicant must be able to obtain and maintain the clearance.

Annual base salary range (excluding major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, New York, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, and Washington, D.C.) is $54,900 – $96,830. Salary is based on work location and other factors.
