Traffic Control Flagger

As a flagger, you will direct and monitor the flow of traffic on road and utility construction sites. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are required.

Flagging requires long periods of standing and willingness to work in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate will have experience in utility locating, loader operation, dump truck operation, backhoe operation, grader operation, and other heavy equipment operations. Hourly pay scale: $.

• Direct and monitor the flow of traffic on road and utility construction sites; provide clear and positive guidance to drivers.
• Ensure safe traffic control practices, especially in frequently changing situations or stressful conditions.
• Coordinate with coworkers and flaggers to maintain safe work zones.
• Flag and signal drivers using paddles to ensure safe passage through temporary work zones.
• Observe and respond to hazardous traffic situations and warn workers as needed.
• Assist in the setup and dismantling of traffic control devices when required.

• Current flagger certification
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Have Flagger Certification Card
• Dependable vehicle (most work locations are not on public transportation routes)
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, and kneel as required; full upper mobility
• Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs continuously, 30 lbs occasionally, and up to 50 lbs
• Ability to receive and communicate instructions clearly, firmly, and courteously
• Ability to move quickly to avoid danger from errant vehicles
• Ability to control flagging paddles to provide clear guidance in changing conditions
• Ability to apply safe traffic control practices, even in stressful or emergency situations
• Ability to recognize dangerous traffic situations and warn workers in time to avoid injury

• No experience required; current flagger card mandatory
• Prior experience in utility locating, paving, loader operation, dump truck operation, backhoe operation, grader operation, Caterpillar equipment operation, and other heavy equipment operations is preferred
• Ability to build and dismantle traffic control setups efficiently
• Familiarity with front loader truck operations is a plus

Work is outdoors with exposure to inclement weather and hazards from traffic. Requires frequent standing and repetitive motions; regular lifting of 10 pounds, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be provided as needed.
