The University of South Carolina’s Division of Marketing is seeking a Senior User Experience Specialist to serve as point person for complex user experience and CMS issues across the sc.edu domain. This role partners closely with the User Experience Manager to identify priorities and address day-to-day UX needs. The Senior UX Specialist will also provide guidance, troubleshoot challenges, and coordinate solutions with site managers across the university.

Job related minimum required education and experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of web technologies, content management systems, languages and best practices. Experience with Omni CMS, formerly OU Campus a plus.
  • Familiarity with Content Management systems and HTML/CSS, ability to administer content including copy, images, video embeds, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of analytics tools, e.g., Google Analytics, Siteimprove.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively with information architects, copywriters, front-end developers and broad cross-functional teams.
  • Solid technical background with an ability to address accessibility and compatibility issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to work as a team player, demonstrate personal initiative and inspire colleagues.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • High-level of professionalism, integrity and commitment to quality.
Job Duties

Academic and/or Administrative unit site support (35%):
Works to identify and resolve complex issues raised by site managers in academic and/or administrative units. Works closely with the User Experience Manager and the CMS administrator to develop solutions for enhanced usability for site managers and accessibility for end users. Cultivates relationships with unit site managers, communications managers and others in Marketing to build consensus in proper use of the content management system (CMS) and available UX tools.

Analysis and data (20%):
Works with the Digital Strategy team to use quality assurance tools to track user behavior, spot trends in site usage and address accessibility issues. Uses information to create data-driven solutions that address site manager issues and support communications goals.

Oversees site managers network (15%):
Manages the communications with and administration of the USC Site Managers Community. Develops the tools and processes needed to share ideas and encourage collaboration across all unit sites in the university.

Team collaboration (10%):
Collaborates with Digital Strategy and Marketing teams to help conceive, develop and test templates, tools and components to meet overarching brand initiatives. Assists with strategic priorities as assigned.

Design direction:
